How much of the installation do you check?

The only level of EICR that I carry out is what I call a 100% check, this means I will check 100% of all available sockets, switches and accessories, in addition to the main part of the test in the consumer unit. The only items that will not be inspected are any agreed limitations where something it not accessible. Be aware that some companies offer an EICR only spot check your installation, sometimes as little as 25% checked, which is not very good. You would not like it if you took your car for an MOT and they only check two out of four wheels, and missed other items! Whilst carrying out the report, the power will need to be off for a length of time.

As a Stroma Certified Tester and installer we will inspect and test all parts of your electrical fixed wire distribution system to ensure its safety, this is from the main incoming supply point through to sockets, light fittings and other wiring accessories, including everything in between. Our Engineers have the expertise required to recognise defects within the wiring system that could prove to be dangerous, especially those that could lead to a fire or injury. We fully understand how important fixed wire periodic testing is to the safety of your employees, clients and the general public throughout the variation on premises we inspect.

An EICR is a report, not a certificate

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a report not a certificate. It is very much like an MOT on a wehicle. The report provides an assessment of the in-service condition of an electrical installation against the requirements of the edition of BS7671 at the time of the inspection, the age of the installation does not come in to it, the same level or report is carried out. The report is only valid on the day that it was carried out, as is an MOT, it details the condition at that point in time.

EICR Classification Codes

Each and every observation found in the EICR, will show a level of concern for the safety of the installation, and is given a classification code from the list below.

Code C1 : Danger present. Risk of injury. Immediate remedial action required.
Code C2 : Potentially dangerous. Urgent remedial action required.
Code C3 : Improvement recommended.
