The Google Nest Hello is the search giant’s answer to Amazon’s Ring, and it looks a little bit sleeker.

It works along the same lines too, offering notifications and video viewing of visitors to your front door.

But there are some key differences to keep in mind if you’re looking to buy one.

As the Nest Hello is part of the Google ecosystem it works best with Google devices.

Ideally, you should connect the doorbell to a Nest Hub for the full video and audio features from one device.

Alternatively, though, you could use the Nest Hello with a Google Home smart speaker for the audio, and a Chromecast connected device (like a TV) to view the video.

The other thing to remember is that the Hello Nest doorbell doesn’t include a chime.

While you can still get notifications, for a chiming noise it needs to be wired into a compatible chime.

It also needs to be wired into a property’s main electrics, as it doesn’t run off of batteries.

This does mean you’ll likely need an expert (or Nest Pro) to install the device.

Once it is installed, the Nest Hello Video Doorbell offers HD video, night vision, a 160-degree field of view, and the opportunity to speak to (or send set messages to) any visitors to your property.
